Leaving Twitter? Some things to consider.

Twitter Nitter Leaving Twitter Deleting Twitter

Recently, many people have been (considering) leaving Twitter. Myself included, I rarely used the service and I don't like where the platform is headed, so I deleted my two accounts (one personal, one for my online identity.)

I've also taken two easy steps to prevent myself from ever visiting Twitter.

The first measure I took was installing Privacy Redirect. This addon redirects Twitter to a Nitter instance, allowing you to view the content without ever being nagged to sign up. It also has support for redirecting for other websites, which you may want to consider. It is available for both Chrome and Firefox. It is also open source.

My second measure was signing up for a Twitter alternative (although admittedly I rarely used Twitter). I chose for Mastodon because it's open source, cannot be bought due to the nature of having different instances by different groups and individuals. Most instances also have good rules. While I don't think I will use Mastodon frequently (especially not for posting) I think it will be easy should more people 'flee' Twitter.

And of course as stated earlier I deleted my Twitter accounts.

I hope this is helpful if you're considering leaving Twitter. The platform's future is unpredictable, so it's time to start taking action now.
